1. Who we are
TrailQuest is a mobile fitness application developed by MartinThe Strider ("we", "our"). This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.
2. Data we collect

Health Connect
With your permission, TrailQuest reads the following data from Health Connect: step count, elevation gained and floors climbed. Steps move you along your trail and count toward your daily goal, your streak and the leaderboards. Elevation and floors are used for the hiking part of your HealthSpan score. If you allow background access, TrailQuest also reads your step count about once an hour while the app is closed, to keep your daily total, streak and leaderboards up to date. Only your step count is read while the app is closed; elevation and floors are read only while you use the app. You can turn background access off in the app's settings, and withdraw any permission at any time in Health Connect.
We store your daily step totals and the values derived from them (streak, leaderboard totals, HealthSpan score) in Firebase. Data from Health Connect is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with third parties.
3. How we use your data
All data is used to operate and improve the app, and to send you the TrailQuest newsletter (see below). We do not use your data for advertising or profiling. We do not sell your data or share it with any third party other than the service providers listed in section 4.
TrailQuest is a social app: your display name, @handle, step totals, streak and HealthSpan score are shown to other TrailQuest users on leaderboards and to the friends you add.

Newsletter
A few times a month we email TrailQuest users about new trails and features. You receive it because you have a TrailQuest account. We tell you when you sign up, and you can turn it off at any time: in the app (Settings → Newsletter), or with the unsubscribe link in every email. Turning it off takes effect immediately and does not affect anything else in the app. If you signed up for the newsletter on our website, you receive it because you asked for it, and the same unsubscribe link applies.
For the newsletter we use your email address and your app language, so that you get it in your language. We record whether each email was delivered, opened or clicked, so that we can remove addresses that no longer work and see which topics interest readers. The newsletter is sent through Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France, EU), which processes this data only on our behalf.
4. Third-party services
TrailQuest uses the following Google services as infrastructure:
- Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Storage) — authentication and data storage
- Google Maps Platform — map display
- Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics — usage statistics and crash reports
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — push notifications
- Google Play Billing — in-app purchases
- Brevo — sending the newsletter (email address and language only)
- Health Connect — reading step count, elevation gained and floors climbed (see section 2)
5. Data retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. You may delete your account via the app (Settings → Delete account) or via this page. Upon deletion, all data is permanently erased from Firestore, Firebase Storage and Firebase Auth, and your address is removed from the newsletter service.
6. Your rights
- Access — view your data in the app at any time
- Correction — update your name, handle, and avatar in Settings
- Deletion — permanently delete your account and all data
- Portability — contact us to request an export of your data
7. Children
TrailQuest is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date reflects the most recent revision.
